Grantsburg High

Grantsburg High is the only high school in the Grantsburg School District, serving 273 students in grades 9–12 in a small rural community in northwest Wisconsin near the Minnesota border. It is the largest high school in its immediate area, and it enters 2025-26 in its strongest position in a decade: 252nd of 533 Wisconsin high schools, the 53rd percentile and a 3-star rating, after three straight years at 1 star and roughly the 21st–26th percentile.

That improvement shows up across subjects. Tenth graders scored at or above the state average in math and science and above it in social studies, while English language arts remains the clearest gap, trailing the state and sitting behind Webster High and Frederic 6-12 School in reading. The school graduates 96.8% of students with a 0.0% dropout rate, beating the state's 92.0% every year for five years. What makes this notable is how it is achieved: Grantsburg spends $13,577 per student — far less than Luck High, Webster, and Siren High, which spend between $17,873 and $20,862 — while running the largest classes in the group at 14.9 students per teacher.

Inside the school, special education students are a standout, ranking in the 87th percentile statewide. The main challenge is chronic absenteeism at 16.6%: better than the state's 17.3% and far healthier than Frederic or Siren, but nearly three times the 6.0% reported by the district overall, and roughly flat over the past two years. Overall, the high school performs well above its own district, whose lower rating appears driven by the earlier grades.
