The Sun Prairie Area School District includes three middle schools serving grades 6–8 — Prairie View Middle, Patrick Marsh Middle, and Central Heights Middle — with a combined enrollment of 1,840 students. Prairie View is the largest at 699 students, followed by Patrick Marsh at 581 and Central Heights at 560. The district itself ranks 288th of 432 districts in Wisconsin, at the 33rd percentile with 2 stars, but the three schools vary quite a bit in their own results.

Prairie View Middle has the strongest current profile, with the highest 2025–2026 test average among the three, a statewide rank of 281st of 643 (56th percentile), and an improvement from 2 stars to 3 stars. Patrick Marsh Middle was the top performer in 2024–2025, ranking 256th of 628 (59th percentile, 3 stars), and posted the single highest score in the group at 76.88% in 8th-grade Social Studies. Its 2025–2026 results slipped, though, to 318th of 643 (51st percentile), with Social Studies falling to 64.13%. Central Heights Middle is the most uneven: its 7th-grade ELA (64.58%) and math (63.21%) lead the group, but its 8th-grade scores are the lowest of the three, and it ranks 357th of 643 (44th percentile) with 2 stars.

All three schools share notable strengths outside of test scores. Each posted a 0.0% dropout rate, better than the district's 0.2% and the state's 1.1%, and all three had chronic absenteeism below the district's 20.0% — Central Heights at 16.4%, Patrick Marsh at 17.3%, and Prairie View at 18.2%.
