Greenwood School District

Greenwood School District is a small Wisconsin district with two schools—Greenwood Elementary (PK–6) and Greenwood High (7–12)—serving 331 students total, and the district overall ranks 248th of 432 in the state (43rd percentile, 2 stars).

Academically, the two schools are very different. Greenwood High is the standout: in 2025–26 it ranked 298th of 533 schools (44th percentile, 2 stars) and outperformed the state in most assessments. Its middle grades are especially strong—8th grade math was 80.00% proficient vs. the state’s 53.67%, 8th grade social studies 80.00% vs. 64.63%, 7th grade ELA 66.67% vs. 55.33%, and 7th grade math 66.67% vs. 55.67%. In contrast, Greenwood Elementary has seen a steady decline, falling to 754th of 1039 (27th percentile, 1 star) in 2025–26. Several grade-level results are far below state: 4th grade math 18.18% vs. 52.87%, 4th grade ELA 31.82% vs. 53.87%, and 5th grade ELA 41.67% vs. 53.63%. Bright spots include 3rd grade ELA near state average (52.17% vs. 52.08%) and 6th grade math above state (62.07% vs. 53.6%).

Attendance and completion metrics also differ. Greenwood Elementary has excellent attendance—only 6.1% chronic absenteeism, far below the state’s 17.3%—while Greenwood High has 25.8% chronic absenteeism, well above state. The high school reports a 0.0% dropout rate (better than state’s 1.1%) but an 88.8% graduation rate (below state’s 92.0%). Spending and staffing differ sharply: the high school spends $24,475 per student with an 8.7:1 student-teacher ratio, versus $18,308 and 10.2:1 at the elementary, despite similar free/reduced lunch rates. Because cohorts are small, year-to-year swings can be dramatic. Overall, Greenwood High is the academic bright spot, especially in middle-grade math and science, while Greenwood Elementary needs support in early-grade math, ELA, and science; the district’s main tensions are the elementary achievement decline and the high school’s absenteeism and graduation rate.
