Boscobel Area School District

Boscobel Area School District is a small Wisconsin district of three schools — Boscobel Elementary (PK–5), Boscobel Junior High (6–8), and Boscobel High (9–12) — serving about 651 students in and around Boscobel, and it carries a 2-star rating, ranking 295th of 432 districts (32nd percentile). Enrollment is concentrated at the elementary level, which holds 311 of the district's 651 students.

The three schools are in very different places. Boscobel Junior High is the current bright spot: 223rd of 643 schools, 65th percentile and 3 stars, up from 42nd percentile in each of the two prior years, with above-state results in nearly every listed test — most notably 6th-grade math at 75.68% proficient, 22.08 points above the state. Boscobel Elementary has moved the other way, from 75th percentile and 4 stars in 2023-2024 to 45th percentile and 2 stars in 2025-2026; its current strengths are 5th-grade math (59.52% vs. 51.81% statewide) and 4th-grade math, while 3rd-grade ELA (38.89% vs. 52.08%) and 4th-grade science (44.00% vs. 53.46%) fall well behind. Boscobel High remains below the state in all four current tested areas, with math the largest gap (23.81% vs. 42.93%), yet its graduation rate (93.7%), dropout rate (0.5%) and chronic absenteeism (3.5%) all beat the state.

Attendance is a district-wide strength: chronic absenteeism runs from 1.9% at the elementary school to 3.5% at the high school, against 17.3% statewide. Spending does not track neatly with results — the elementary school has the highest per-student spending ($18,682) and lowest student-teacher ratio (10.3), while the junior high has the lowest spending ($14,688) and the strongest current outcomes. In short, the district average masks a strong junior high, a declining elementary school, and a high school whose completion metrics outpace its test scores.
