Summary:
Spooner, Wisconsin has exactly one public elementary school: Spooner Elementary, the only elementary building in the Spooner Area School District. It serves roughly 363 students in grades PK–4 at 1821 Scribner St. Because there is only one elementary school in the city, there is no local peer school to compare it against — the most useful comparisons are the school versus the state, and this year versus last year.
On the 2025-26 Forward Exam, Spooner Elementary scored above the state average in five of six reported subject-and-grade cells: grade 3 ELA (+5.5 points), grade 4 ELA (+12.4), grade 3 math (+13.4), grade 4 social studies (+8.8), and grade 4 science (+2.0). The exception is grade 4 math at 48.65%, about 4 points below the state; that subject has now come in below the state two years running and is the clearest area to watch. Overall the school improved noticeably: its state rank rose to 395th of 1,039 elementary schools (62nd percentile, 3 stars), up from the 48th percentile and 2 stars a year earlier. The elementary building also ranks well ahead of its own district, which sits at the 46th percentile of Wisconsin districts.
Two context numbers stand out. First, 53.17% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, yet the school still scores above the state in most subjects. Second, chronic absenteeism is 15.1% — lower than both the district (16.0%) and the state (17.3%), which matters because attendance strongly affects test performance. Class sizes are also relatively small at 13.4 students per teacher, with per-student spending of $14,721.
