Summary

Walla Walla High School is a large comprehensive public high school serving grades 9–12 in the Walla Walla area of southeastern Washington, with 1,554 students and a 20.5-to-1 student-teacher ratio. The school ranks 105th out of 396 Washington high schools, placing it in the 73rd percentile with a four-star rating—a notable improvement from 174th place and the 60th percentile the previous year. It also performs considerably better than its district’s statewide position: Walla Walla Public Schools ranks in the 42nd percentile.

Academically, English language arts is the school’s clearest strength. In 2025–26, 68.73% of students were proficient in ELA, compared with 52.81% statewide and 44.16% in the district. Math improved substantially to 38.05%, the school’s best result in the available four-year period, but it remains below the 43.11% state rate and is the clearest area for continued improvement. Science proficiency was 54.63%, above both the state’s 50.95% and the district’s 48.15%, although it declined from the previous year. Walla Walla High School also led nearby schools with reported results in all three subjects, including College Place High School and Waitsburg High School.

Student completion outcomes are especially strong: the 2024–25 graduation rate was 93.7%, above the 82.6% state rate, while the dropout rate was just 2.4%, far below the state’s 9.8%. Graduation has edged down from its 96.5% peak in 2022–23, so that trend deserves monitoring. School effectiveness is uneven across student groups. Results for students from low-income households were strong, ranking in the 81st percentile statewide, while effectiveness for students receiving special education services ranked in the 31st percentile and English language learners in the 15th percentile. Overall, the school combines strong ELA, science, graduation, and recent ranking gains with important opportunities in math and targeted student support.
