Tekoa High School

Tekoa High School is a small public school serving grades 6–12 in the eastern Washington community of Tekoa, with 115 students and a low student-teacher ratio of 12.1 to 1.

Academically, Tekoa is improving but remains inconsistent. The school ranked at the 53rd percentile statewide in 2024–2025, a substantial recovery from the 11th percentile in 2020–2021, although results can change considerably from year to year because the student body and grade-level groups are small. In 2025–2026, proficiency was 42.86% in English language arts, 20.63% in math, and 38.71% in science. Math is the clearest concern: proficiency has remained below 27% for four consecutive years, including just 14.29% in eighth grade. ELA is stronger than math but still below the state average, while science is a relative bright spot. The sixth- and 10th-grade results in some subjects were suppressed, so their performance cannot be determined from the available data. The school’s Tekoa School District ranks near the bottom statewide, but that district ranking should not be treated as a direct substitute for the high school’s ranking.

Compared with nearby schools, Liberty High School is substantially stronger, with 2025–2026 proficiency of 79.49% in ELA, 43.59% in math, and 77.27% in science. It serves only grades 9–12, so comparisons require some caution. The closer and similarly structured Oakesdale High School had higher ELA and math results but lower science results than Tekoa. Tekoa also serves a larger share of economically disadvantaged students than both comparison schools. Overall, families may want to look closely at math support, middle-grade ELA, graduation information, and how the school is using its favorable staffing levels to build on its relative science strengths.
