Summary

Bonney Lake High School is a large public high school serving grades 9–12 in Bonney Lake, Washington, with 1,643 students in the strong Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, about 4.25 miles from Sumner High School.

For parents, the school’s overall picture is encouraging. It ranks 55th out of 396 Washington high schools for 2025–2026, placing it in the 86th percentile, and its ranking has improved substantially from 110th two years earlier. Academically, English language arts is a clear strength: 76.92% of students were proficient, compared with 52.81% statewide. Mathematics is more mixed. The 48.68% proficiency rate was above the state’s 43.11% and higher than nearby comprehensive schools such as Puyallup High School, Emerald Ridge High School, and White River High School. However, it remained below the district average of 60.23%. Science was also above the state average, at 57.66%, though results have fluctuated in recent years.

Student persistence is another major advantage. The 2024–2025 graduation rate was 94.1%, well above the 82.6% state rate, while the dropout rate was 2.1%, compared with 9.8% statewide. Bonney Lake also compares favorably with its same-district neighbor, Sumner High School: it had a higher graduation rate, lower dropout rate, stronger math and science results, and a lower student-teacher ratio, while Sumner was slightly stronger in ELA. The school shows especially strong effectiveness for English learners and low-income students. Its main priorities are closing the math gap with the district, making science performance more consistent, and improving outcomes for students receiving special education services, whose latest statewide effectiveness ranking was at the 33rd percentile.
