Summary

Green Lake Elementary School in Seattle serves 367 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade and is located in an area with many high-performing elementary schools nearby. The school is part of Seattle School District No. 1, which ranks in the 81st percentile statewide. Green Lake ranks in the 64th percentile among Washington schools, placing it above the state midpoint but below most nearby comparison schools.

Academic results are mixed by subject. In 2025–26, 46.98% of students were proficient in English language arts, 56.38% in math, and 73.17% in science. Science is the clearest strength, exceeding both district and state rates and outperforming Olympic View Elementary School, Daniel Bagley Elementary School, and B F Day Elementary School. ELA is the main concern: Green Lake’s rate was lower than every nearby school listed, including Olympic View. Fourth-grade ELA was especially weak at 36.36%. The school’s statewide ranking has also declined from the 91st percentile in 2020–21 to the 64th percentile in 2025–26, although science improved substantially in the latest year.

Green Lake serves a more economically diverse student population than most nearby schools, with 36.24% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, compared with 8.45% at West Woodland Elementary School and 5.32% at Bryant Elementary School. Its low-SES subgroup effectiveness rank is comparatively low, at the 26th percentile, making equitable support an important priority. At the same time, the school reports the lowest student-teacher ratio among the comparison schools, at 14.2, and the highest per-student spending, at $26,270. These resources could support focused improvement in literacy, particularly fourth grade, and stronger outcomes for students from economically disadvantaged households.

Open Quote Love the inclusiveness here. It's great to see kids working side-by-side with children with disabilities. The school is small and has an active PTA, with lots of opportunities to get involved (even if you're a working parent, like many of us). Reading levels divide up to ensure kids are working at their own level, and math is also leveled. I appreciate that my child isn't forced into classes that will bore her, because she's already mastered concepts. Love that it's a neighborhood school and that we often see our friends in the wild (or at Green Lake). While there's not a language component, we are seeing our children receive social lessons that will shape them for life, lessons we couldn't teach them on our own. Close Quote
