Summary

James McGee Elementary is a public Pre-K through 5th grade school serving 499 students in the Pasco School District, performing in the middle range compared to other schools in its immediate area.

Academically, the school's test scores are higher than the district average but below the state average, with about 43% of students proficient in English and 32% in math. It significantly outperforms several nearby schools like Emerson Elementary, Captain Gray STEM Elementary, and Rowena Chess Elementary, which have much lower proficiency rates. However, it trails higher-performing schools such as Ruth Livingston Elementary. A notable trend is that student performance in math tends to decline from 3rd to 5th grade, while reading scores remain more stable.

The school serves a student population where about 56% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, which is lower than many of its lower-performing neighbors but higher than the top performers in the district. Interestingly, there is no clear link between how much money is spent per student and how well a school performs in this area; James McGee receives more funding per student than the district's top school but has seen its state ranking drop from a 2-star to a 1-star rating in recent years, which is a point of concern that the school may be addressing.

Open Quote I attended James Mcgee when I was in elementary school, my daughter now attends there. A few of my teachers are still around, it is a great school. There are many amazing teachers that definitely are teaching because they do it for the love of it. I am happy to know that my daughters education and wellbeing come first. Close Quote
