Summary

Simpson Avenue Elementary is a public school serving 402 students in grades 3-6 in the rural community of Montesano, and it stands out as a high-performing, 4-star school that ranks in the top 25% of all elementary schools in Washington state.

The school excels academically, with student proficiency in English, Math, and Science consistently beating state averages, and it is particularly effective in supporting students from lower-income families. A key insight is that Simpson Avenue achieves these strong results while spending significantly less per student than many neighboring schools, such as Lincoln Elementary in the Hoquiam School District or A J West Elementary in the Aberdeen School District, demonstrating notable operational efficiency.

When compared to other elementary schools in the region, Simpson Avenue is a clear leader. It outperforms all five elementary schools in the Aberdeen School District and has shown a strong, steady recovery in its rankings since the pandemic. Within its own Montesano School District, it successfully builds on the foundation set by Beacon Avenue Elementary School, with fifth graders showing especially high achievement in science.
