Summary

Hidden River Middle School is a public school serving 313 students in grades 6-8 within the Monroe School District in Snohomish, WA, and it stands out as the stronger academic performer within its own district, particularly when compared to Park Place Middle School.

Academically, the school's students outperform both district and state averages in English Language Arts and science, with math scores being very close to the district average. The school has shown a strong recovery trend since the pandemic, climbing from the 34th to the 69th percentile in statewide rankings over four years. It's important for parents to know that while Hidden River is a leader in its district, there is a noticeable performance gap when compared to many middle schools in neighboring districts like Northshore and Everett, such as Gateway Middle School and Timbercrest Middle School, which often have significantly higher proficiency rates.

Hidden River operates with a lower student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending than these higher-performing neighboring schools, indicating it may be addressing a broader range of student needs. Performance varies among different student groups, with a notable and concerning recent drop in scores for Hispanic students, while special education students perform quite well. For families within the Monroe School District, Hidden River represents a solid and improving choice, but its position highlights how district-level factors can influence a school's academic outcomes relative to its geographic neighbors.

Open Quote This school was a living look into those movies about bullies and students. Except NO TEACHER DOES ANYTHING TO STOP IT. They're nice enough, but the English teacher I'd had did nothing to stop this kid from getting bullied...it was the same for PE meaning another kid and I stepped in and offered to help the kid being left out OUT. But...teachers? Nope. And forget the guidance counselor...if you're new, being picked on, and need help they ask you to point to faces in a book. EXCEPT...if you're new, you wouldn't remember...and...then there's nothing they can do. Girls who walk up to you and apologize for talking bad about you (When you didnt know), guys mocking you and asking you out on mock dates just so you can stutter, and guys on the bus who ask you everything like you're a baby. I was a quiet kid, and I took...a lot of it. A girl stood up for me on the first day to the group of jock guys (letting me, clueless and nervous, that they were messing with me) and popular girls, same on the bus with another kid. Did they stop? Not for a LONG time. It was a bad experience. The curriculum...was ok, I enjoyed it. It was interesting. But there's no way I felt very comfortable or wanted there....I'm sorry.
