Hidden River Middle School

Summary:

Hidden River Middle School is a public middle school in Snohomish, Washington, serving 327 students in grades 6-8. As part of the Monroe School District, which is ranked 96 out of 247 districts in the state, Hidden River Middle School has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

The school stands out for its higher percentage of White students (64.53%) compared to surrounding schools, as well as its strong academic performance. In the 2023-2024 school year, 55.09% of students were proficient or better in SBAC/English Language Arts, outperforming the Monroe School District (51.49%) and the state of Washington (52.63%). Additionally, Hidden River Middle School ranks 47th out of 179 Washington middle schools for its special education students, with a 4-star rating. This performance is noteworthy, especially given the school's higher spending per student ($18,008 in 2021-2022) compared to the district and state averages.

However, Hidden River Middle School has seen a decline in its statewide ranking, from 81st out of 443 Washington middle schools in 2015-2016 to 199th out of 535 in 2023-2024. This suggests the school may be struggling to maintain its high performance over time. Additionally, the school faces competition from higher-performing schools in the region, such as Heatherwood Middle School and Timbercrest Middle School, which are part of the Northshore School District and Everett School District, respectively.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school was a living look into those movies about bullies and students. Except NO TEACHER DOES ANYTHING TO STOP IT. They're nice enough, but the English teacher I'd had did nothing to stop this kid from getting bullied...it was the same for PE meaning another kid and I stepped in and offered to help the kid being left out OUT. But...teachers? Nope. And forget the guidance counselor...if you're new, being picked on, and need help they ask you to point to faces in a book. EXCEPT...if you're new, you wouldn't remember...and...then there's nothing they can do. Girls who walk up to you and apologize for talking bad about you (When you didnt know), guys mocking you and asking you out on mock dates just so you can stutter, and guys on the bus who ask you everything like you're a baby. I was a quiet kid, and I took...a lot of it. A girl stood up for me on the first day to the group of jock guys (letting me, clueless and nervous, that they were messing with me) and popular girls, same on the bus with another kid. Did they stop? Not for a LONG time. It was a bad experience. The curriculum...was ok, I enjoyed it. It was interesting. But there's no way I felt very comfortable or wanted there....I'm sorry. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
