Summary

Legacy High School is a small public high school serving about 143 students in grades 9-12 within the Marysville School District, and while it has shown significant improvement in recent years, it continues to face challenges with graduation rates that are below average.

The school is much smaller than traditional high schools like Marysville Getchell High School or Marysville Pilchuck High School, which allows for a very low student-teacher ratio and higher spending per student. This "small school premium" has contributed to notable strengths, particularly in science, and a rapid rise in its state ranking. However, outcomes are inconsistent; graduation and dropout rates lag behind those of other local schools, and test scores can vary greatly from year to year. A notable finding is a performance gap between male and female students at the school.

It's important to view Legacy's performance in context: all high schools in the Marysville School District rank in the bottom half of the state. When compared to a high school in a higher-performing district like Everett High School, which spends less per student but has much higher graduation rates, it suggests broader district-level factors are at play. Legacy serves a similar function to the nearby Heritage School, an alternative program, but achieves better outcomes with its student population.

Open Quote It was a very good public high school experience. The smaller class sizes fostered a more intimate learning environment and a sense of community. Most of the teachers seemed to actually enjoy teaching (A shocker, I know) and many had master's degrees and offered several college credit classes. Close Quote
