Summary

Mount View Elementary is a public elementary school (PK-5) serving about 460 students in the White Center neighborhood of Seattle, operating within the Highline School District.

Academically, Mount View's performance is generally similar to other nearby schools in its own district, such as Hazel Valley Elementary and Beverly Park Elementary at Glendale, though it shows notable strengths in English Language Arts and significant challenges in science. The school's test scores can vary considerably from year to year and between different grade levels, with much higher scores in some grades than others. It spends more per student than several neighboring schools but has a less favorable student-to-teacher ratio.

A striking finding is the large performance gap between schools in the Highline School District and those in the nearby Seattle School District No. 1. For instance, Arbor Heights Elementary School, just over a mile away, has proficiency rates more than double Mount View's. Within its own district, Shorewood Elementary stands out as a higher performer, particularly in science, suggesting school-level practices can make a difference even in similar areas.

Open Quote Not only is this school ranked in the BOTTOM ten percent of all State elementary schools it condones political activism. I was disturbed by the lack of respect for our national anthem and the flag of our country before a televised audience. I consider the public actions of Mt. View Elementary to be an insult to every American. I blame its administrators and teachers for this. Close Quote

Open Quote It was great, the students and staff made it a wonderful place most of the time. Ms. Wells and Ms. Bohn were good administrators, teacher like Ms. Alcantara made this a great place for kids. Ms. Marbet and Ms. Nelson in the office looked after me whenever I needed help with something. Good leadership can make a difference and Ms. Wells really did. Close Quote
