Summary

Lee Elementary is a public K-6 school serving 522 students in the Eastmont School District of East Wenatchee, WA, and it stands out for achieving strong academic results while serving a community with significant economic need.

The school is on a clear upward trend, improving its statewide ranking in recent years, and its students perform notably well in math and science, scoring above both district and state averages. A key strength is how effectively the school supports students from low-income families and those in special education, with these groups achieving high percentile rankings. However, the school faces a significant and ongoing challenge in supporting its English Language Learner students, where performance has declined. Within its own district, Lee is a solid performer, ranking second among comparable elementary schools like Cascade Elementary and Grant Elementary, even though it serves a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students than the top-ranked school.

When compared to schools with similar demographics in the neighboring Wenatchee School District, Lee's performance is particularly impressive. It significantly outperforms schools like Abraham Lincoln Elementary and Lewis And Clark Elementary School, suggesting a district-level advantage. While Valley Academy of Learning K-8 has higher test scores, it serves a very different, much more affluent student population.

Open Quote I am extremely disappointed in the level of care and concern that some of the staff at Lee Elementary provided to my son's education. He requires modified learning based on how he processes information. This modified learning style does not mean he lacks intelligence. In fact he is quiet gifted. Unfortunately, despite the fact he is very smart this schools lack of care and concern for him, in not only his education but his emotional health, planted the seed of a negative self image in terms of intelligence.

I've never felt so strongly about removing him from an environment were he had peers his own age to socialize with until my experience with Lee Elementary. He was restricted from participating in activities because he could not pass a test within time requirements despite his need for a quiet space with no distractions. They did nothing to help him feel like he could achieve this goal or make the necessary arangements that would help be successful. Instead, they forced him to take this test over and over again while the rest of the class moved on to different lessons. He had to forgo play time with peers so he could once again take a test. I can't think of anything more destructive to a child than the public humiliation he feels in the presence of his peers because he has to take a test over and over again while the other kids get to do as the please in the class room. It is humiliating because his punishment is a public matter.

I have brought his needs to the attention of his teacher and the psychologist but it seemed to slip their mind unless I was directly in front of them and even then it was agree, agree, agree and not follow through. My husband also tried to get involved and called over and over again never to get any of his calls to the counselor/school psychologist returned. Talk about excellence in education, ha! If you are fortunate enough to be able to pay for private school or have enough time to home school your children I would encourage it because though there may be great teachers some where at this school what if they get one that doesn't care? Will they conveniently forget? Will they get frustrated? Can you be confident when you leave your kid(s) in their "capable" hands? If your kid is struggling are they going to tag him as defiant? A trained monkey could have done a better job at least you can get them to answer a phone.

What is clear about Lee Elementary is that you can not depend on them to care about your kids education or emotional health. If you leave your child's education in their hands you're taking a gamble. Close Quote
