Summary

Jenkins Junior/Senior High is a 7-12 grade school serving 322 students in Chewelah, WA, within the Chewelah School District, and has recently undergone one of the most dramatic turnarounds in the state, jumping from a 1-star to a 4-star rating in just two years.

This remarkable improvement means Jenkins Junior/Senior High now outperforms 73% of Washington high schools, a stark contrast to some neighboring schools like Mary Walker High School, which ranks in the 7th percentile. Jenkins excels at supporting its students, with over half qualifying for free or reduced lunch, yet achieving a stellar 94% graduation rate that far exceeds the state average. This success is particularly notable compared to schools with similar economic challenges, such as Cusick Junior Senior High School, which has a higher spending per student but lower graduation rates and academic rankings.

The school shows particular strength in science, with 11th graders scoring well above the state average, though math proficiency is an area for continued growth. Interestingly, male students at Jenkins currently outperform female students, which is an unusual pattern. While the school's performance has fluctuated over the past decade, its recent rapid ascent demonstrates effective leadership and teaching, making it a standout for delivering strong student outcomes with efficient use of resources in the region.

Open Quote Nice, small town school. I graduated there and 20 years later my sons are graduating from there. Good teachers who care about your children. They could use a little more school spirit, but it takes active parents to help with that. Ok sports program, it keep the kids active and out of small town trouble. Close Quote
