Summary

Icicle River Middle School is a well-regarded public school serving 258 students in grades 6-8 in the mountain town of Leavenworth, WA, consistently ranking in the top third of all Washington middle schools.

The school stands out for its strong academic performance, with test scores in English and Math that are notably higher than the state average. A key strength is its investment in smaller class sizes, with a student-teacher ratio of 13:1, which is lower than nearby schools like Orchard Middle School and Foothills Middle School. This focus on individual attention appears to support students from all economic backgrounds effectively. While the school performs very well within its own Cascade School District, it is important for parents to know that Cashmere Middle School in the higher-ranked Cashmere School District achieves even stronger results with similar student demographics.

Performance is consistently solid across grade levels, though the school, like others in the area, sees a dip in 8th-grade Math and Science scores—an area the school is likely addressing. The school has shown resilience, bouncing back from a slight dip in scores a year ago, which suggests responsive leadership. For families in the region, Icicle River offers a high-quality, stable educational environment that significantly outperforms other options in the larger Wenatchee School District.

Open Quote The teachers provide excellent training to all the kids. They address weakness early in a student. The school has a great procedure to keep class interuptions to a minimum. Kids don't run the classrooms here, the teachers do. Kudos to them. Close Quote
