Summary

Neah Bay Junior/Senior High School is a small, rural public school serving grades 6-12 with about 206 students, located within the Makah Indian Reservation as part of the Cape Flattery School District.

The school faces significant challenges, with math proficiency rates critically low at around 10% and overall test scores lagging behind state averages. However, it demonstrates clear strengths, including a graduation rate that exceeds the state average and a strong record of effectively supporting its students through to completion. The school invests substantially more per student than typical public schools, which supports a favorable student-teacher ratio, allowing for more individualized attention. Performance has been volatile year-to-year, which is common in small schools where each student's results have a larger impact on the overall percentage.

Notably, the school shows relative strengths in science and 10th-grade English, and it has shown consistent, exceptional effectiveness in serving its community. Economic indicators for the student population appear to be improving. As a remote school, there are no other schools within 20 miles for direct comparison, making it a central educational institution for the local area.
