Summary

Impact Public Schools, operating as Impact | Commencement Bay Elementary, is a small, public elementary school serving about 230 students in grades PK-5 in Tacoma, offering a notable educational option within the charter network distinct from the traditional Tacoma School District.

The school stands out for its strong academic results, especially in mathematics where it outperforms the state average, and it is particularly effective in supporting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ranking significantly higher than nearby schools with similar student populations. For example, while schools like Roosevelt Elementary and Blix Elementary serve comparable communities, Impact achieves much higher proficiency rates in core subjects, suggesting its educational model is making a positive difference.

With a favorable student-teacher ratio and a clear record of annual improvement, Impact demonstrates a promising trajectory, though it faces the challenge of addressing a performance gap between female and male students. Compared to neighboring schools such as Edna Travis Elementary and Sheridan Elementary, Impact's combination of strong outcomes for its community, efficient use of resources, and consistent growth across grade levels makes it a distinctive choice for families in the area.
