Summary

Summit Public School: Sierra is a small public high school in Seattle’s South King Street area, serving grades 9–12 and 214 students. Its small enrollment and 15.2-to-1 student-teacher ratio may allow more individualized attention than larger nearby schools. Sierra currently has a 3-star rating and ranks around the 51st percentile statewide, although its latest annual ranking was 214th out of 396 schools, or about the 46th percentile. Results have varied considerably: the school ranked at the 70th percentile in 2023–24, fell to the 36th percentile in 2024–25, and then showed a partial recovery.

Sierra’s clearest academic strength is English Language Arts. In 2025–26, 62.5% of students met the ELA standard, compared with 52.81% statewide. That result was below Garfield High School and Franklin High School, but it was stronger than Sierra’s math and science performance. Only 26.47% met the math standard and 37.5% met the science standard, both below state averages. Math has been a persistent challenge, with results near the mid-20% range in three of the last four years. By comparison, recent math results were higher at Garfield and The Center School, though math was also difficult at Franklin.

Sierra’s 2024–25 graduation rate was 83.5%, nearly matching Washington’s 82.6% but below Garfield’s 91.1% and slightly below Franklin’s 84.1%. Its 8.9% dropout rate was better than the state’s 9.8% but higher than Franklin’s and Garfield’s. Special education subgroup outcomes have been a notable strength, while results for low-income students have been weak and inconsistent. Because the school is small, individual graduating classes can significantly affect year-to-year percentages. Overall, Sierra appears strongest in ELA, student support, and maintaining graduation outcomes close to the state average, with its biggest opportunities in math, science, graduation stability, and support for economically disadvantaged students.
