Summary:
Sultan School District serves about 2,107 students across seven schools in the Sultan and Gold Bar area, from kindergarten through grade 12, including traditional elementary, middle, and high schools as well as virtual, alternative, and reengagement programs. The district’s largest schools are Sultan Elementary School and Sultan Senior High School, which together enroll about 60% of students. Overall, the district ranks around the middle-to-upper range of Washington districts, but school results vary considerably by grade level and subject.
Sultan Elementary School is the strongest all-around traditional school, with 2025–2026 proficiency of 50.48% in English language arts, 55.48% in math, and 59% in science. It exceeded district results in every subject and outperformed the state in math and science, although scores declined somewhat from the previous year. Gold Bar Elementary had lower overall results—40.80% in ELA, 39.43% in math, and 45.31% in science—with math its relative strength. Its smaller student-teacher ratio and higher reported spending may appeal to families, but achievement remains below Sultan Elementary School in most areas.
Sultan Senior High School showed the district’s most notable improvement, with ELA proficiency rising to 68.14% and its ranking improving substantially. Its 90.8% graduation rate and 5.6% dropout rate are also better than district and state averages. Math remains a major weakness, however, at 29.20% proficient. Sultan Middle School is the clearest area of concern: only 28.19% of students were proficient in math, and ELA fell sharply to 40%. Families should also note that Sky Valley Options, Sultan Virtual Academy, and Open Doors Youth Reengagement serve small, specialized populations, so their outcomes are less directly comparable.
