Northshore School District has six public middle schools serving grades 6–8 in the suburban communities north and northeast of Seattle, with a combined enrollment of about 5,131 students. Overall, these schools perform well statewide: every school ranks at or above the 84th percentile among Washington middle schools, and all exceed state averages in English language arts (ELA), math, and science. However, performance varies within the district, making school-to-school comparisons useful for families.
Timbercrest Middle School is the district’s clear academic leader, ranking 15th statewide and posting the highest proficiency in ELA, math, and science. Skyview Middle School ranks second locally and combines strong results with the district’s largest enrollment, serving 1,215 students. Leota Middle School ranks third and has shown especially encouraging improvement in its statewide position, rising to 35th. These three schools form the district’s strongest overall group, with simple average proficiency across the three subjects ranging from about 69% to 78%.
Northshore Middle School, Canyon Park Middle School, and Kenmore Middle School also perform above state averages, although their results are below the district’s top schools. Science is the most positive recent trend, improving at five of the six schools; Canyon Park had the largest gain. Math is the main area of concern, with the lowest average proficiency and the widest gap between schools, especially in 8th grade. Kenmore has the lowest current overall results but has improved its statewide ranking and math score, while Canyon Park’s major science improvement has not yet produced a comparable ranking rebound.
