Lake Chelan School District

Lake Chelan School District serves about 1,246 students in four schools covering kindergarten through grade 12 in the Lake Chelan area of Washington. The district includes one elementary school, one middle school, and two high-school programs, with overall performance near the middle of the state at 111th out of 238 districts and the 53rd percentile.

Chelan Middle School is the district’s strongest current performer, ranking in the 70th percentile and earning four stars. It exceeds district and state averages in English language arts and math, including 49.62% proficiency in math compared with 37.64% districtwide. Its ranking has improved substantially in recent years. Chelan High School ranks in the 55th percentile and is strongest in English language arts, where 57.76% of students are proficient. It also reports strong graduation outcomes, with a 96.4% graduation rate in 2023–24, although math remains a concern at 33.62% proficiency. Across the district, middle and high school results are notably stronger than elementary results.

Morgen Owings Elementary School, the district’s largest school, ranks in the 17th percentile and is the main area needing improvement. Proficiency is below district and state averages in all tested subjects, with especially weak fifth-grade math results at 18.06%. Families may want to ask about early-literacy support, math intervention, and the transition into middle school. Chelan School of Innovation serves only 50 students, and its current test results are suppressed because of its small enrollment; its previous-year ELA result was encouraging but should be interpreted cautiously. Overall, math is the clearest districtwide challenge, while graduation rates and secondary-school performance are important strengths.
