Summary:

The Chehalis area has nine listed schools serving about 3,774 students from prekindergarten through grade 12, including elementary, middle, high school, alternative, and juvenile-detention programs in the Chehalis School District and nearby Adna School District. The schools vary considerably in size, grade span, and purpose, so parents should compare traditional schools separately from specialized programs.

Adna Elementary School is the strongest academic performer in the listings, ranking in the 88th percentile statewide, with 77.69% of students proficient in English language arts and 72.31% in math. It has also improved steadily in recent years. Among traditional high schools, W. F. West High School stands out with a 97% graduation rate, a 72nd-percentile ranking, and ELA performance well above the state average. Orin C. Smith Elementary School has shown encouraging improvement, especially in science, while James W. Lintott Elementary School serves prekindergarten through second grade and has no listed assessment results.

The clearest area for improvement is middle-grade math. Chehalis Middle School reported 33.03% math proficiency, and Adna Middle/High School reported 36.51% across its combined grades, although both schools improved in some subjects and Adna’s ranking rose notably. Green Hill Academic School, Lewis County Alternative School, and Lewis County Juvenile Detention serve specialized, much smaller student populations and should not be compared directly with comprehensive schools. Suppressed figures mean results are unavailable, not that performance was zero.
