Summary

Twinfield Union School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in Plainfield, Vermont, with a total enrollment of 315 students. While the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, it has faced some concerning challenges in recent years, including a decline in its four-year graduation rate and high chronic absenteeism rates.

Academically, Twinfield Union School generally outperforms the state average in English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency, but struggles in mathematics, with most grade levels scoring well below the state average. The school's science proficiency is mixed, with 11th-grade students performing better than the state average, but 5th and 8th-grade students lagging behind. Notably, Blue Mountain Union School, Danville School, and Cabot School in the surrounding area have lower chronic absenteeism rates compared to Twinfield Union School's concerning increase from 13.9% in 2019-2020 to 47.9% in 2021-2022.

Another key factor is that Twinfield Union School serves a much higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students (54.98% to 60.32%) compared to the nearby schools (49.85% to 71.94%). This high percentage of economically disadvantaged students may contribute to the school's academic challenges and high chronic absenteeism rates. Addressing the root causes of these issues, such as improving instructional practices, providing targeted support, and fostering a positive school climate, will be crucial for Twinfield Union School to improve student outcomes and better serve its community.

Open Quote Some of the faculty/staff smoke pot on their breaks, some faculty/stuff are friends with students, some faculty/staff bully students, students bully students, students bully some faculty/staff. There are a few respectable teachers and very few respectable students. There have been several drop-outs I've seen. Former students have broken into and vandalized the school. A good portion of students do not go to college. I wouldn't recommend this school for anybodies kids due to my personal experiences. I have been interrupted and unable to present projects due to teachers lack of intervention. Teachers impose their views on students. Overall bad environment for kids! Close Quote
