Summary

Patrick Henry School Of Science And Arts is a public charter elementary school serving 328 students in grades K-5 in Richmond, Virginia, which is part of the Richmond City Public Schools district.

Patrick Henry consistently outperforms the district and state in standardized test scores, with 90.7% of 3rd graders proficient or better in Math compared to 51.96% for the district and 72.89% for the state. The school also has a unique student demographic, with a higher percentage of white students and a lower percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds compared to surrounding schools. Additionally, Patrick Henry has seen a decline in chronic absenteeism rates, from 25.3% in 2022-2023 to 15.7% in 2023-2024, though this is still higher than the state average.

While Patrick Henry excels academically, the surrounding schools in the Richmond City Public Schools district struggle significantly. For example, in 2024-2025, Patrick Henry's 3rd grade Math proficiency rate was 90.7%, compared to just 59.09% at the nearby Elizabeth D. Redd Elementary. This stark contrast in performance suggests that Patrick Henry's success may be attributed to factors such as its charter status, which could provide more flexibility and autonomy in curriculum and resource allocation.

Open Quote I was so happy to leave such a toxic environment. My children all have thrived in their middle school since leaving in so many ways. I supported the schools vision for education and environment and they failed as time went on. I do not recommend. Close Quote

Open Quote Test scores are meaningless with a small school population. We have been very pleased with our Patrick Henry experience. Love the dress code and unique education model. There is so much potential for Patrick Henry, and parental involvement, while required, is top notch. Many parents choose to go above and beyond the minimum through active participation in PTA and helping out in the indoor and outdoor classrooms (yes, much time is spent learning in the local park). One of our most favorite activities in which to participate is the Friday morning meetings where students (and teachers) of all levels are recognized by their exceptional behavior and school/community stewardship. Talk about uplifting! Close Quote
