Mecklenburg County High is a public high school in Baskerville, VA, serving about 1,140 students in grades 9–12 as part of Mecklenburg County Public Schools. The school has a very high poverty rate, with 94% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, and its statewide ranking has fallen from the 62nd to the 40th percentile over the past two years.

Despite these challenges, there are real bright spots. Ninth graders taking Earth Science scored 100% proficient, well above the state average of 74.8%, and Geometry students posted a 96.9% proficiency rate. Biology scores are also strong. Chronic absenteeism remains high at 28.1% (nearly twice the state rate), though it has improved from 36.3% the prior year. Students with disabilities are the most urgent concern, ranking in the 13th percentile statewide. Overall, Mecklenburg County High shows that strong math and science pathways are possible for its students, but reducing absenteeism, supporting struggling learners, and stabilizing outcomes for vulnerable subgroups are critical next steps.
