Perrymont Elementary is a PK-5 school in Lynchburg, VA, serving 377 students in the Lynchburg City Public Schools district. Poverty alone doesn't tell the whole story. Sandusky Elementary, only about a mile away, has nearly identical poverty levels (93.4% FRPL) but dramatically stronger outcomes: it ranks in the 15th percentile, posts 51.0% science proficiency, and has a 19.5% chronic absenteeism rate. Perrymont does have occasional bright spots — 4th-grade math exceeded the district average in 2025-26, and 5th-grade VA Studies reached 75% proficiency in 2023-24 — but these haven't translated into sustained schoolwide improvement. The comparison with Sandusky suggests that improving attendance and school-level support systems could be among the most important opportunities for turning things around.
