Kanab High

Kanab High is a public school in the small southern Utah community of Kanab, serving 322 students in grades 9–12 as part of Kane District. The school has recently become one of Utah’s stronger high schools, ranking 12th out of 139 schools and in the 91st percentile for 2025–2026, with a five-star rating. That represents a substantial rise from the 43rd percentile in 2020–2021.

Current academic results are above Utah averages in all six reported subject-and-grade areas. Science is a particular strength, with 69.2% proficiency in ninth grade and 63.1% in 10th grade, compared with 49.7% and 39.3% statewide. Tenth-grade English language arts is another standout at 74%, versus 48.2% statewide. Ninth-grade math has improved steadily over three years, reaching 56.5%, while 10th-grade math is the clearest area to monitor at 36.6%, even though it remains above the district and state rates. Ninth-grade ELA also warrants attention because its latest result, 53.7%, declined after a much stronger prior year.

Student completion and attendance indicators are generally encouraging. The most recent school-specific graduation rate was 92.4%, above Utah’s 88.3% but below the district’s 94.2%; the school’s 7.6% dropout rate was below the state but above the district. Chronic absenteeism improved to 22.2% in 2024–2025, better than both the district and state, though still affecting more than one in five students. Compared with Valley High, located about 17.6 miles away, Kanab is larger and has a higher student-teacher ratio—20.8 versus 14.0. Valley’s reported high-school test results fall within ranges that overlap Kanab’s exact scores, so neither school can be declared the clear academic leader from the available data.
