Summary

Whitesides School is a public elementary school in Layton, Utah, serving about 396 students in prekindergarten through sixth grade. Located in the Davis District, it serves a moderately high-need community, with 43.18% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. The school’s 2025–2026 ranking was 349th of 563 Utah elementary schools, placing it in the 38th percentile and earning a two-star rating. This was a meaningful improvement from 430th place and the 21st percentile the previous year.

Academic performance is uneven across subjects and grades. English language arts is relatively solid in fourth grade, at 48.4%, nearly matching the district and exceeding the state, while sixth-grade ELA was close to the state result. Mathematics is the clearest concern: fourth-grade performance was 39.4%, sixth-grade performance was 28.6%, and fifth-grade performance was under 20%, compared with about 45% statewide. Science results were also inconsistent, including a fifth-grade result reported at 20–38%. Whitesides also had a relatively high student-teacher ratio of 23.2, which may make individualized support more difficult. Its overall standing is close to Layton School, ranked in the 42nd percentile, while it remains ahead of Crestview School, King, and Lincoln. The strongest opportunities for continued improvement are reducing absenteeism and providing intensive support in fifth- and sixth-grade mathematics and science.
