Summary:

Emery District serves about 2,091 students in 10 schools, including elementary, middle, and high schools in communities such as Castle Dale, Huntington, Ferron, Cleveland, Green River, and Orangeville. The district is near the middle of Utah’s rankings, at about the 50th percentile with a 3-star rating. School sizes vary greatly, from 83 students at Green River High to 614 at Emery High. Families should note that some achievement results are reported as ranges or are unavailable, so missing data should not be interpreted as poor performance.

Ferron School is the district’s clearest academic standout, ranking in the 94th percentile among Utah elementary schools and earning five stars. It is especially strong in mathematics and science, although its chronic absenteeism rate is high. Among middle schools, San Rafael Middle School has the stronger English Language Arts results across grades 6–8, while Canyon View Middle School is stronger overall in mathematics and has an especially strong sixth-grade science result. Other elementary schools show mixed grade-level patterns: Castle Dale School has strong upper-elementary mathematics and science, while Huntington School has stronger fifth-grade results than its third- and fourth-grade results.

Emery High has a solid 90.4% graduation rate, above both district and state comparisons, but its academic ranking and tenth-grade test results have declined. Attendance is the broadest concern across the district: chronic absenteeism is higher than the statewide comparison at every school. Rates are lowest at Emery High, San Rafael Middle School, and Castle Dale School, but highest at Green River High, Cleveland School, and Huntington School. Parents comparing options should focus on the specific grades and subjects their child needs, since performance varies considerably within schools.
