Open Quote At E. A. Young Academy, there is no standard curriculum or scope and sequence used in most subjects, especially in the lower school.
Teachers are expected to create their own scope and sequence and lessons. They are given VERY little guidance or resources, so many lessons come from the Teachers Pay Teachers website. Most subjects are not taught with fidelity using research-based best teaching practices.
The Head of School and Assistant Head of School are not trained educators and have very little understanding of these best teaching practices. Math for grades K-5 is taught completely online. Regardless of how intelligent the students may be, teaching math online with very little hands on experiences is NOT best teaching practices. The recommended number of instructional minutes in the lower grades is 90-120 minutes a day for English Language Arts and 75-90 minutes a day for Math. E. A. Young Academy allots only 50 minutes a day for ELA and Math. Teachers are not compensated well, and there are no benefits provided by the school. It is virtually impossible to work as a teacher at EAYA without another source of income. The teachers there are phenomenal and truly want what is best for the students. However, with little to no guidance and scarce resources, there’s only so much they can do. Close Quote

Open Quote Great school if you’re looking for a personalized, creative and challenging environment for your child. It’s truly a community of engaged educators and parents. SOLID academics, focused on mastery not rote learning. For my socially anxious, but highly curious child, it was what we needed when public couldn’t provide. He has made deep friendships and learned so much! Close Quote

Open Quote We have 2 children at EA Young Academy and both of them love it! Young is a school dedicated to meeting the needs of gifted and high ability scholars. They also understand that giftedness can come with challenges (such as overexcitabilities). The classes are small and much of the cirriculum is project based. The upper school (9-12) offers scholars participation in the AP Capstone Program (which provides students skills in independent research, collaboration and communication). Contact EA Young directly for current enrollment numbers & faculty to student ration (the info on this site is not accurate). Close Quote
