Open Quote St. Mary's Catholic School is an answer to many prayers for our family. Our family is doing everything we can for our kids to stay in school here.
As for the poor review on this site, the math/religion teacher is no longer teaching primary grades, only middle school. He is a tough teacher and expects quite a lot out of his students. Sometimes too much, that is true, BUT expecting a lot out of the students is one reason WE LIKE St Mary's. They hold the students to a high standard in discipline, academics, and most importantly, moral issues. These standards are one way we achieve such high marks on standardized tests, place first in the Texas private school academic competitions and have such successful students in high school.
The third grade teacher in the poor review is no longer at St Mary's either. She died. After teaching for 41 years and a battle with cancer, she passed away. She probably was a bit disorganized this past year, she wasn't well, but no one knew that. In actuality, she was recruited many times by the public school system for higher pay and turned them down repeatedly to stay at a school that values religion and religious activities.
St. Mary's has some great teachers and administrators. It has some less than great teachers and administrators, too. Like every other school in the nation!
But the fact remains that no matter how good or how poor the academics are (and they are currently excellent), no matter how much you agree or disagree with the discipline or the uniforms or the sports or any other matter, St. Mary's offers a Catholic atmosphere and Catholic instruction that cannot be matched in central Texas. For that reason alone, we will continue to send our children to St Mary's. Close Quote

Open Quote We love St. Mary's Catholic School and have been so pleased with our child's education there. The smaller school community really feels like family. We travel over 30 miles to get there daily--so that says a lot about the faculty, staff, and facilities! Close Quote

Open Quote I don't have enough great things to say about Pre-K - 2nd grade. My child had excellent teachers who were willing to go above and beyond to make sure learning was happening and that expectations were met and exceeded. The teachers love to teach and loved the students and it was very obvious and a wonderful school to send our child., However 3rd grade is a whole DIFFERENT story. My child's math/religion teacher is not certified to teach 3rd grade and therefore has expectations that would be more suitable in an upper middle/high school class. He is unwilling to teach by other methods, except lecture, and is unable to cater to different learning styles. My son's homeroom teacher is unorganized and harsh. Agreements that are made with parents are not followed through by the teacher. I don't think these two teacher's could get hired in a public school. A public school teacher couldn't get away with half of what these teachers have done. Apparently St. Mary's is desperate enough for teachers that parental concerns about these two are dismissed. My child will not be back at St. Mary's next year, we can't do another year like this one. Close Quote
