Open Quote Our son attends school at St. Mary and is currently in first grade. He began Kindergarten at St. Mary after attending a preschool elsewhere. Upon completion of Kindergarten, a child should know around 100 sight words and be confident in all letter sounds. Our son knew less than 10 words by sight and did not know any vowel sounds. We decided to put him in Kumon for the summer and the Kumon instructor was shocked that he was behind. She could not believe how quick to learn our son was baffled that someone as willing to learn as he was would be behind. After enrolling in Kumon for the summer he was caught up and we decided to give St. Mary's another chance as we had heard good things about the first grade teacher. Big mistake. Our son is discouraged about reading again and it was not brought to our attention that he was lagging behind until our son was in tears last night while we were working on homework. The teacher does not respond to emails and brushes off concerns regarding classroom performance with a lackadaisickal attitude. If we weren't committed to paying tuition for the rest of the year we would pull him out now. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
