Prince Of Peace Catholic School

We attended since 2016 and have had lower and upper school children. As other reviewers said (back in 2018), the President who oversees the school  has a large amount of staff but does not seem very effective or student oriented. Nothing has changed has actually gotten worse. The school does not seem to demonstrate or lead with christian values in their decision making and they do not operate in the best interest of the children or the community. They let the middle schoolers go to camps overnight, with very little supervision or accountability. It is frightening. If you have a child at this school or end up attending, please think twice before you allow a field trip. My child has had to undergo therapy due to the environment and decisions made by this school and in particular the terrible administrators. The teachers don't speak up out of fear and this year the athletic director abruptly left "on his own accord" mid-year - he was just gone the next Monday. The day to day is run by Meghan Jones, the principal, who comes from a "sales background" and I question her knowledge or experience running a school effectively (it's first go around). We know of many families that are miserable say they're "stuck", many who want to speak up but are scared, many who are actively looking to leave, and many that have pulled their kids (all 5th grade or above). I would say it can be an okay school in the elementary levels but once middle school starts the circumstances change significantly. Mean behavior is tolerated if you are the right family and thus bullying is overlooked in some circumstances. For the sake of your children and family, please do your homework before sending your kids here. Spend time talking not to just the families of the young kids but the ones that have been there through the years, the ones who are just praying to get through one more year so they can send their kids to Jesuit or some other private high school. It is tough once you get sucked in and are at the mercy of an administration that doesn't care or work to create a positive learning environment for the kids. If you are into sports please know that the opportunities can be likened to "daddy ball" for all grades 5-8 bad parent coaches are the norm. Also know that teams are picked and based on popularity not skill and speaking up about that is a no no or you will be blackballed. Practices cap at 2 hours per week total. You're better off in public or look elsewhere in the Catholic Diocese.

We have two children who were previously enrolled in Plano public schools (one boy and one girl), where we were reasonably happy. However, we felt disappointed that their academic environments wasn't challenging enough, there was too much teaching to the state tests, and we were unhappy with various discipline or behavioral problems that would arise. So we decided to look at private schools and ultimately chose Prince of Peace Catholic after a long search. We have been extremely happy with our choice. The kids are thriving in a challenging academic environment and the school community is absolutely wonderful, with a sharing, supportive atmosphere. We have zero discipline issues these days. In addition, the parental support and volunteering are unbelievable. I am so glad we made the switch.

It is not the greatest school I have attended, but some of the teachers actually know what they are doing. Others, well, not so much. But you get that at every school no matter where you are in America.

I have called on several occasions to inquire about enrollment for my child in private school and always felt uninvited and cold. I have attended mass a few times however, we have felt the same way. Hence the reason for Catholic attrition. No thanks!!!
