Summary

Whitney High School in Whitney, TX, serves 437 students in grades 9-12 and is part of the Whitney Independent School District (Isd), a district that has shown strong resource efficiency in driving student outcomes.

Whitney High School is on a clear upward trajectory, earning its highest-ever ranking in the 2025-2026 school year at the 73rd percentile statewide. Its standout strength is English Language Arts, with 78.95% of students proficient in English II Reading—19 percentage points above the state average and the highest rate among nearby schools like West High School and Rio Vista High School. The school also excels in supporting English Language Learners, who rank in the 86th percentile statewide, a clear differentiator from most peers. Additionally, Whitney boasts a high graduation rate of 96.4% and an exceptionally low dropout rate of 0.4%, outperforming schools like Itasca High School in this area.

However, the school faces challenges in math, with Algebra I proficiency at 48.51%, below the state average and significantly trailing Rio Vista’s 77.92%. There is also a concern with Gifted and Talented students, who ranked in only the 29th percentile statewide, suggesting a need for more enrichment. Despite these areas for growth, Whitney’s balanced performance and consistent improvement—from a 2-star rating in 2018-2019 to a 4-star rating now—make it a strong choice for families, especially those prioritizing literacy and inclusive support programs.

Open Quote This school has been terrible. My children are'nt even allowed to go to the bathroom when they need to. There is not enough time be going while you have to nearly run to your next class to not be late. A majority of the teachers jsut play in their phones and computers all day anyway, why not let the child go to the bathroom? Close Quote
