Summary

McMasters Elementary in Pasadena, TX, is a PK-4 school serving 339 students in the Pasadena Independent School District (Isd), located in a high-poverty community where about 88.5% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

McMasters stands out as a remarkable turnaround story, climbing from the 24th percentile statewide in 2021-2022 to a 3-star rating and the 69th percentile in 2025-2026. This consistent improvement sets it apart from nearby schools like Red Bluff Elementary and Mae Smythe Elementary, which have seen stagnation or decline. The school excels in core subjects, with 4th-grade Math proficiency (56.82%) significantly higher than neighbors like Pomeroy Elementary and Parks Elementary. Most notably, McMasters is exceptionally effective with students from low-income backgrounds, ranking in the 98th percentile statewide for this subgroup in 2023-2024, and it also supports special education students at the 97th percentile in 2024-2025. This demonstrates a strong commitment to equity and closing achievement gaps.

Interestingly, McMasters outperforms more affluent schools in the nearby Deer Park Independent School District (Isd), such as Carpenter Elementary and Deepwater Elementary, despite serving a higher-needs population. The school benefits from a lower student-to-teacher ratio (10.9:1) compared to many Pasadena ISD peers, which likely aids its targeted support. However, performance with Gifted and Talented students is volatile and currently low (24th percentile in 2025-2026), suggesting a potential area for growth in enrichment programs. Overall, McMasters is a high-performing, equitable school that has turned challenges into strengths.

Open Quote This school is very noisy and questioned my son about things that shouldn't be bought up with a child and used that information to call cps on me. Then they lied about knowing who called or whatever. Im sick of this damn school and all the lying people who work there. Close Quote
