Summary

Hutchinson Middle in Lubbock, TX, is a high-performing public school serving 845 students in grades 6-8 within the Lubbock Independent School District (Isd), consistently earning top ratings and standing out as a clear academic leader in the area.

Hutchinson Middle is a standout in its district, ranking in the 78th percentile statewide—far above most other Lubbock ISD middle schools, which typically rank between the 1st and 55th percentile. Its academic performance is more comparable to top schools in the neighboring Frenship Independent School District (Isd), such as Heritage Middle. For example, Hutchinson's 8th-grade reading proficiency (69%) and social studies proficiency (41%) far exceed district averages of 50% and 24%, respectively. The school also excels in advanced math, with 75% of students proficient in Algebra I, compared to just 48% district-wide. However, 7th-grade math is a notable challenge, with only 16% of students proficient—a pattern seen across the district. Additionally, Hutchinson is highly efficient, achieving top results with a per-student spending of $9,179, significantly lower than other Lubbock ISD schools like Dunbar College Preparatory Academy ($15,013) and Slaton Middle ($11,597).

Hutchinson is particularly effective at supporting specific student groups, with White students ranking in the 90th percentile and English Language Learners in the 86th percentile statewide. The school also boasts an extremely low dropout rate of just 0.2%, compared to the district average of 2.0%. However, recent trends show a decline in support for Special Education students, whose ranking dropped from the 94th to the 43rd percentile, and for low-income students, whose ranking fell from the 68th to the 56th percentile. While Hutchinson remains a top choice for families seeking strong academics and a supportive environment, these shifts suggest the school may need to refocus resources to ensure all students continue to thrive.

Open Quote It's really a great school I am going there right now. I didn't give it five stars because I go there, i gave it five stars because, it has great academics, it has good teachers, the staff there is strict but very fun, and the classes are great. The theater arts program is fantastic!!! The tennis team is outrageous!!! The volleyball team could beat any team in a heartbeat!!! The football team is so fast and manipulative that they play tricks on the field so the other team thinks that this person has the ball when that person has the ball!!! Anyways I would reccomend Hutchinson middle school to anyone anywhere!!! It's a great school your kids will love it here!!! Close Quote
