Summary

Eastern Hills Middle is a public middle school located in Harker Heights, Texas, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 589 students. It is part of the Killeen Independent School District, which is ranked 626 out of 961 school districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Eastern Hills Middle consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas middle schools, with academic performance significantly below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the percentage of students proficient or better in STAAR Reading ranges from 18.58% to 35.71%, compared to the district's 37.72% to 45.41% and the state's 51.69% to 56.39%. The school's performance is particularly low in mathematics, with proficiency rates ranging from 13.29% to 20.77%, compared to the district's 21.84% to 25.44% and the state's 31.12% to 44.81%. Eastern Hills Middle also struggles with STAAR Science and Social Studies, with proficiency rates well below the district and state averages.

While the nearby Roy J Smith Middle, Live Oak Ridge Middle, and Nolan Middle generally outperform Eastern Hills Middle on academic measures, the school's relative strengths in serving Gifted and Talented and Special Education students provide a foundation to build upon. However, the school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students suggests that targeted interventions and support may be necessary to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote The seventh grade history teacher (MM) is a flat out racist. He teaches his students that Abraham Lincoln is a racist and that the confederate flag isn’t racist. How are people who fought for the right to keep slaves NOT RACIST! Who is vetting these people to teach our children? How can the administration allow somone to re-write history. His job is to teach to the text so they pass the standardized tests and not to give biased side commentary. This is absolute unacceptable! If this continues I’ll have no choice but to take my complaint to the school board and have an investigation started. Close Quote
