Summary

Peebles Elementary is a PK-5 school in Killeen, TX, serving 458 students within the Killeen Independent School District (Isd), where the school has historically performed below the district average but shows signs of a fragile recovery.

Peebles has a favorable student-teacher ratio of 12:1, which is the smallest among nearby public schools like Meadows Elementary (15.4:1) and Killeen Elementary (14.8:1). A bright spot is 3rd-grade math, where 44.93% of students were proficient in 2025-2026, slightly above the state average and higher than the district average. However, a significant weakness emerges in 4th grade, where proficiency rates drop to 33.33% in Reading and just 19.05% in Math—the latter being less than half the district average. This "4th-grade wall" is a critical issue not as pronounced at nearby schools like Clifton Park Elementary or Ira Cross Junior Elementary, which show more consistent performance across grades.

The school’s overall state ranking has been in long-term decline, falling from the 52nd percentile in 2015-2016 to a low of the 5th percentile in 2022-2023, before recovering to the 23rd percentile in 2025-2026. Peebles spends about $9,600 per student, similar to Ira Cross Junior Elementary ($9,681) but less than Brookhaven Elementary ($10,684). Despite its lower student-teacher ratio, academic outcomes are generally worse than at Meadows Elementary, which spends less per student ($9,183) but has a higher ratio. Peebles outperforms its closest neighbor, Killeen Elementary (3rd percentile), especially in 3rd-grade math, suggesting some relative success despite shared challenges in the area.

Open Quote The school advertised a program that will teach students Spanish. The first year vmy child attended, the program was taught. Now they have gone away with that program. The school does not serve the food on it's daily blunch menu. There have been many days that they have served a meal called "THE MASCOT MEAL" which does not include meat. The principal is horrible. Open Quote This is a wonderful neighborhood school. Do not let it's aging exterior sway you from this wonderful little school. The warmth inside from the faculty and staff is beyond compare. The love and compassion found inside cannot be found elsewhere. From the administrators to the lunchroom and janitorial staff - the love and pride for this campus cannot be denied! True professionalism with a heart lies within these old doors! Close Quote
