Summary

Townley Elementary is a PK-5 public school in Irving, TX, serving 804 students within the Irving Independent School District (ISD), where over 91% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school has experienced a significant decline in state rankings over the past decade, dropping from the 52nd percentile in 2017-2018 to consistently ranking in the bottom quarter of Texas elementary schools in recent years, including a 19th percentile ranking in 2025-2026.

Families living near Townley face a striking "proximity paradox," as dramatically different outcomes exist within a 2.5-mile radius. Just 0.23 miles away, Uplift Infinity Prep PS consistently ranks in the top half of Texas elementary schools (57th percentile) with a 3-star rating, while Townley holds a 1-star rating. Meanwhile, John W. And Margie Stipes Elementary (1.83 miles away) shows a clear upward trend, moving to the 39th percentile in 2025-2026. Notably, Townley's per-student spending ($11,375) is higher than both of these higher-performing schools, indicating that low performance is not simply a funding issue but points to challenges in instructional effectiveness or resource allocation.

The school shows inconsistent performance across grade levels, with 4th-grade Reading proficiency (50.89%) significantly higher than 3rd-grade (33.33%) and 5th-grade (36.89%) in 2025-2026, suggesting variable instructional quality from year to year. A concerning pattern emerges with Spanish-language STAAR tests, where Townley's 3rd graders scored 0% proficient in Math, while nearby Gilbert F. M. Elementary (2.33 miles away) achieved remarkable success with Spanish-language test takers, scoring 50% or higher in multiple Reading grades. Additionally, support for Special Education students has sharply declined from the 66th percentile in 2023-2024 to the 20th percentile in 2025-2026, suggesting a recent breakdown in services for this critical subgroup.

Open Quote I have observed on several occasions how children are treated nice when parents are in the school but when we are absent its another story. My granddaughter has told me that a substitute teacher called her dumb, that lowers a child self esteem but this is who we leave our children in their hands.I want the best education possible for my grandchildren we entrust you with them, how can you as Educators not want the same, they are all God's Children do away with The Teacher's Pet Theme and "TEACH OUR CHILDREN".
