Summary

Energized For Excellence Academy Inc Middle is a public middle school in Houston, TX, serving 515 students in grades 6-8 within the Houston Independent School District (Isd), where over 96% of students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

This school stands out for its exceptional math program, with 100% of tested students proficient in Algebra I—nearly double the district and state averages. This is a major asset for families focused on STEM readiness, as it outperforms nearby schools like Pin Oak Middle (98.34% proficient) and Pershing Middle (67.33% proficient) in this area. The school also shows strong results with its economically disadvantaged students, ranking in the 84th percentile statewide, and has seen a dramatic turnaround for its special education students, jumping from the 1st percentile to the 72nd percentile in just two years. Overall, the school has rebounded to the 63rd percentile (3 stars) after a period of decline, and it significantly outperforms demographically similar peers like Sugar Grove Academy (35th percentile) and Fondren Middle (12th percentile).

However, parents should note a high student-to-teacher ratio of 32.1:1, which is much higher than nearby schools and may affect individualized attention. The school also struggles in some core subjects, such as 8th-grade Social Studies (24.85% proficient) and 6th-grade Reading (44.97% proficient). Additionally, the dropout rate has risen to 2.2%, though it remains below the district average of 3.8%. While the school’s focused math pipeline and recent improvements are promising, these challenges suggest families should consider how the school’s strengths align with their child’s specific needs.
