Summary

James E Mitchell Elementary is a public elementary school in Georgetown, Texas, serving 719 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Georgetown Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 568 out of 961 districts in the state.

Unfortunately, James E Mitchell Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools, with academic performance significantly below the state and district averages across all grade levels and subjects. For example, the school's projected proficiency rates in reading and math for 2024-2025 are around 35-50%, compared to the state averages of 52-58%. Nearby schools like Wolf Ranch Elementary and Carver Elementary have much higher proficiency rates, ranking in the top half of Texas elementary schools.

The school's high percentage of students from low-income families, around 40-50%, may be a contributing factor to its academic underperformance. However, the school's per-student spending has increased in recent years, and the student-teacher ratio is similar to nearby schools, suggesting there may be opportunities for improvement if the right strategies and interventions are implemented. Overall, James E Mitchell Elementary faces significant challenges, but with the right support, it has the potential to better serve its students and community.

Open Quote This is my sons first year at Mitchell. I have been beyond impressed with this school. My son attends the Dual Language program and learned so much. His teacher Mrs. Egbert is outstanding. She stays in contact with the parents and is quick to respond to any questions that arise. The 2 star rating for this school should not be taken to heart. As with any school, your child gets what you give. If you are an involved parent you will love this school! Close Quote
