Summary

Curtsinger Elementary is a highly-rated, 5-star school in Frisco, TX, serving 623 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the prestigious Frisco Independent School District (Isd). While Curtsinger consistently ranks in the top 10% of all Texas elementary schools, it sits in a neighborhood of exceptionally high-performing schools, including McSpedden Elementary and Talley Elementary, which often rank in the 99th-100th percentile. This means Curtsinger is an excellent school in a competitive cluster of "super-schools," and its slight dip in ranking over recent years likely reflects its neighbors' rising performance rather than any decline in its own quality.

One of Curtsinger's standout strengths is its exceptional support for English Language Learners (ELL), ranking in the 94th percentile for this subgroup—a remarkable achievement that often outpaces even its top-ranked neighbors. The school also performs strongly with Special Education and Hispanic students, demonstrating effectiveness across diverse needs. However, a notable pattern emerges in math: 3rd-grade math proficiency (58.7%) has consistently fallen below the district average (64.52%) for three years, yet by 4th and 5th grade, math scores significantly exceed district averages. This suggests a potential "math pipeline" issue in early elementary that the school successfully resolves by upper grades.

Compared to nearby Shawnee Trail Elementary, which has a higher free/reduced lunch rate and spends more per student ($11,068 vs. $9,319) yet performs far below Curtsinger, it's clear that Curtsinger's success stems from effective instructional practices and school culture rather than demographics or spending alone. With a favorable student-to-teacher ratio of 15.4:1 and a low free/reduced lunch rate of around 12%, Curtsinger offers a well-rounded, high-quality education. For families prioritizing the absolute highest rank, nearby schools like Talley or McSpedden may be the primary draw, but Curtsinger remains a fantastic choice with world-class subgroup performance and a strong track record of academic excellence.

Open Quote The teachers appear disconnected and unmotivated. Many repetitious worksheets without any actual teaching or understanding occuring in the classrooms. There also seems to be a lack of support from the principal to hold the teachers accountable and provide them the resources they need to provide the best learning experience of the children. The teachers' latest request for a "big item" from the PTA was for individual Keurig coffee makers for each pod. There is something fundamentally wrong with teachers requesting perks for themselves over teaching aids for the classroom. We are disappointed that we purchased a house within a mile and simply assumed "blue ribbon" meant a quality of teacher. Sadly, it's based on test scores through memorization of repeated pre-tests. We hope that this isn't indicative of Frisco ISD as a whole and maybe just one bad school. Close Quote
