Summary

Natha Howell Elementary is a PK-5 school in Fort Worth, TX, serving 349 students within the Fort Worth Independent School District (Isd), where over 95% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and it has recently achieved its highest-ever ranking—a 3-star rating in the 56th percentile statewide.

This school is in the midst of a remarkable turnaround, with a 37-percentile-point jump from the 19th percentile just a few years ago—a rate of improvement unmatched by nearby schools like Riverside Applied Learning Center (69th percentile) or Oakhurst Elementary. What makes this especially impressive is that Natha Howell achieves these gains with a higher student-teacher ratio (16.2:1) and a more challenging student demographic than its peers. The school’s success is driven by exceptional support for its most vulnerable students: it ranks in the 71st percentile for low-income students and the 70th percentile for special education students, both earning 4-star ratings. It also outperforms Idea Achieve Academy, a nearby charter school serving a similar population that ranks in just the 15th percentile.

The standout 5th-grade class is a key to this turnaround, with 72% proficiency in reading and 68% in math—scores competitive with the area’s top schools. However, science remains a critical weakness, with only 2% of 5th graders proficient, and Spanish-language reading scores lag behind English ones. The school spends $12,677 per student, higher than most neighbors, suggesting investment in specialized support rather than smaller classes. To sustain its upward trend, Natha Howell must replicate its 5th-grade success across all grades and strengthen science instruction.

Open Quote Beyond level school with beyond level teachers. New teachers every year and the good ones never stay. Some teachers yell and scream at kids and others don't let them use the bathroom when they need to use it. Principal is a joke. She never calls back or takes care of problem teachers. Close Quote

Open Quote After this school year I will move just so my children are not forced to go to this awful school. The adminstration is terrible. We were given one days notice about a field trip. The principal is fake. She acts like she cares about the students and parents but never follows through on any of her promises. When observing my child at school I heard the way her teacher talks down to the students and staff. I feel this is the way she normally acts when she thinks no one is watching. She seems uneducated and unprofessional. I have contacted the school several times in regard to bullying on the bus. I have been avoided and ignored all year. I had to pull my children off the bus because the problem was never resolved. As for the classroom, I feel that the constant displine interrupted the learning environment. If you want your children to get a quality education and not get bullied DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN GO TO THIS SCHOOL! Close Quote
