Summary

Ridgemont Elementary in Houston, TX, is a public school serving 337 students in grades 2 through 5 within the Fort Bend Independent School District (Isd), located in a high-poverty area where over 96% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

While the district is highly rated, Ridgemont has historically struggled, ranking in the bottom 20% of Texas elementary schools. Its proficiency rates in Reading (34-53%) and Math (20-35%) are roughly half of district averages. A bright spot is 5th Grade Reading, where 52.75% of students were proficient in 2025-2026, close to the state average. However, Science scores are extremely low, with only 8.7% of 5th graders proficient in 2024-2025. The school spends significantly more per student ($16,005) than nearby schools, yet this investment hasn't translated into strong academic outcomes. For example, Windsor Village Elementary, a Houston ISD school just over 2 miles away with even higher poverty, is a 4-star school that outperforms Ridgemont in every subject.

Performance gaps are especially concerning for students taking the STAAR test in Spanish, where scores are alarmingly lower than English-language tests. Support for Special Education students has also collapsed, dropping from the 35th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 9th percentile in 2025-2026. Despite these challenges, Ridgemont has shown a slight upward trend in its overall state ranking, moving from the 5th percentile in 2018 to the 17th percentile in 2026, suggesting some positive momentum, though improvements remain inconsistent.

Open Quote DO NOT ENROLL YOUR KIDS HERE!!!
This school is beyond behind! My son has been going here for 2yrs and it’s been the worse 2yrs of MY life! The school is below the academic standard. The teachers are getting younger and younger. His teachers only call me if he’s misbehaving but never call me concerning his grades. Their job is to teach! If he’s misbehaving then it’s your job as a teacher to control the students in your class. If it becomes too much then send him to the office. BUT DONT CALL ME! That’s crazy. The teachers are hella ghetto! I called the front officer to get his teachers email addresses and she doesn’t even have the email addresses. How is it that these teachers work at this school and you dorayn’t have their school email address? The website has old info and is never updated regularly which is frustrating as heck! I’m just over this school all together. He will be withdrawn ASAP! Close Quote
