Summary

Darrouzett Schools is a small, rural public school in Darrouzett, TX, serving 86 students from Pre-K through 12th grade as the sole campus of the Darrouzett Independent School District (Isd). With a very low student-to-teacher ratio of 5.3:1 and spending $14,631 per student, the school offers an incredibly personalized learning environment where students receive nearly double the individual attention compared to nearby Follett School (which has a 9.4:1 ratio). However, academic performance is highly inconsistent from year to year, largely due to the small class sizes—just one or two students can dramatically swing proficiency rates. For example, 6th-grade Math proficiency dropped from 50% to 0% between school years, while English II Reading soared from 20% to 80%.

Darrouzett shows a clear pattern of struggling with elementary and middle school Math, recording 0% proficiency in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in the 2023-2024 school year. Yet the school excels in high school End-of-Course (EOC) exams, particularly in Biology (90.91% proficiency in 2024-2025, well above the state average of 62.04%) and English II Reading (80% in 2025-2026). This suggests that while foundational math skills need improvement, the school effectively prepares older students for high-stakes assessments, possibly through targeted intervention or dedicated teachers. An interesting anomaly is 8th-grade Social Studies, which achieved 53.85% proficiency in 2023-2024—nearly double the state average—though this success was not sustained the following year.

Compared to Follett School, Darrouzett serves a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students (68.6% eligible for free/reduced lunch versus 52.2% at Follett). Follett consistently outperforms Darrouzett in core elementary Reading and Math, such as 3rd-grade Reading (77.78% proficiency versus 0% at Darrouzett in 2025-2026). Both schools boast a perfect 100% graduation rate for 2023-2024, with Darrouzett maintaining this for five consecutive years. For parents, Darrouzett offers an intimate, supportive environment with strong high school EOC results, but the volatility in test scores means outcomes can vary significantly from year to year.
