Summary

E B Comstock Middle is a public school in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas, TX, serving 599 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Dallas Independent School District (Isd).

Comstock has faced persistent academic challenges, but it also has remarkable bright spots. The school is a standout in advanced math: its Algebra I proficiency rates have consistently exceeded both the district and state averages by 30 to 40 percentage points. This is a huge differentiator, especially when compared to nearby schools like School For The Talented & Gifted In Pleasant Grove, a magnet school that achieves 95-98% proficiency in nearly every subject. Comstock also excels with its Special Education students, ranking in the 96th percentile statewide in 2024-2025. However, the school struggles with its Gifted and Talented program, which ranked in the 0th percentile in 2025-2026, and has seen a sharp decline in performance for male students. The school’s per-student spending is higher than the nearby magnet school, yet broad academic gains remain elusive, suggesting a need to replicate the success seen in Algebra I and Special Education across the entire school.

For parents, this means Comstock offers exceptional opportunities for students ready for advanced math and for those with special needs, but the general student body faces significant hurdles. The school’s performance for low-income students is volatile, and there is a notable drop in math proficiency between 6th and 7th grade, a challenge shared by other area schools like Dr Frederick Douglass Todd Senior Middle and John Lewis Social Justice Academy At O W Holmes. While the school has pockets of excellence, families should investigate how the school supports the majority of students who are not in advanced programs.

Open Quote This school is by far the worst school I have ever been inside. You have students cursing at eachother from one end to another, and grown adults working there not telling them anything. Just recently I had a phone call saying my daughter was getting a referral because she slapped a boy. Her reason was he was talking about her and name calling at her, pushing her almost making her fall. So she got fed up and slapped him making him cry. I asked if she had told a teacher she replied the teacher said if he wasnt talking to her inside the classroom then it didn't matter as long as it wasnt inside the classroom. And im wondering why would you allow any kind of behavior on your school grounds just not while in session. Why is my daughter getting picked on, And these teachers not doing anything about it. Would it have been different had my daughter started crying? Close Quote

Open Quote Personally this school is okay; the teachers are nice some can be mean just try them. I went there for my 7th and 8th grade year(08-11). It was a great experience although E.B Comstock has had a number of 8th graders repeat the grade not once but twice; I know I'm one of the students who repeated 8th grade twice. Close Quote

Open Quote E.B Comstock Middle school is a very good school like any other.People are scared of taking their children to that school because of the rumors. The children who don't want to bad don't have to be bad if they don't want to be bad.Even though there are problems and fights at Comstock there are also good things happening like the school is beggining to raise up there grades and teachers are working very hard.Students really like this school once they try it.I am part of trying to help this school come up by volenteering. Please I hope you do the same.
