Summary

Bayles Elementary is a PK-5 public school in the Dallas Independent School District (Isd), serving 392 students in a high-poverty area where over 98% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom 15-20% of Texas elementary schools over the past decade, earning a 1-star rating and ranking in the 15th percentile for the 2025-2026 school year, making it the lowest-performing school in its immediate vicinity compared to nearby schools like Alex Sanger Preparatory School (67th percentile) and Eduardo Mata Montessori School (56th percentile).

Despite these challenges, Bayles has a remarkable bright spot: its 5th-grade Spanish-language math program is exceptionally strong, with 88.89% of students scoring proficient in 2025-2026 compared to just 22.76% district-wide and 22.32% statewide. This "bilingual advantage" in math is not mirrored in English-language math or reading, where scores remain below average, suggesting a highly effective approach in this specific area that could be replicated. The school also shows relative strength in serving Special Education students, ranking in the 53rd percentile (3 stars), though it struggles significantly with Gifted and Talented students, ranking in the 1st percentile (0 stars).

Bayles spends more per student ($13,734) than comparable schools like S S Conner Elementary ($11,137) and has a favorable student-teacher ratio of 13.5:1, yet academic results lag behind. This resource paradox suggests that how funds are used, not the amount, is the key issue. The most relevant comparison is to S.S. Conner Elementary, just 0.85 miles away with a similar demographic profile, which outperforms Bayles in most English-language subjects and offers a benchmark for achievable improvement. Strengthening support for "At-Risk" students, which has been historically inconsistent, could have a major impact on overall performance.

Open Quote The office staff and their professionalism is poor. The teaching staff is horrible. The school is so far below state standards that it should be closed. No school performances not even for Christmas. This opinion is coming from an active parent in her kids school culture and education. Close Quote
