Summary

Holbrook Elementary is a PK-5 campus in Houston, TX, serving 757 students as part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (Isd), and it has experienced a remarkable turnaround in recent years, climbing from the 27th percentile statewide in 2021-2022 to the 64th percentile (3 stars) in 2025-2026.

The most compelling story at Holbrook is its dramatic improvement, especially for students who often face the biggest challenges. The school is exceptionally effective with its economically disadvantaged students, ranking in the 83rd percentile statewide for this group—a 4-star rating that far outpaces nearby schools like Bane Elementary, which ranks in the 19th percentile overall. Holbrook also excels with its Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students, ranking in the 80th and 70th percentiles respectively. This strong performance with at-risk populations suggests that targeted interventions or new leadership have been highly successful. In contrast, while Eiland Elementary in Klein Independent School District (Isd) has a higher overall ranking (73rd percentile), Holbrook’s support for low-SES students is superior, making it a standout choice for families in similar circumstances.

Academically, Holbrook shines in upper elementary math, with 4th and 5th-grade proficiency rates (57.29% and 51.69%) exceeding both state and district averages, and significantly outperforming Bane Elementary (41.18% and 21.17%) and Harmony School Of Endeavor-Houston (16.95% and 24.14%). The school also maintains a favorable student-to-teacher ratio of 13.8, lower than many peers like Smith Elementary in Houston Independent School District (Isd) (15.8). However, 5th-grade Science remains a relative weakness at 33.64% proficiency, below the district average of 42.21%, representing a clear area for continued growth. Overall, Holbrook is a school on the rise, offering a strong, supportive environment for its students.

Open Quote I enrolled my daughter at this school for the first time as a Kindergarten student in August of this year (2012). She attended on the first day of school and on the second day of school I was checking her out! This school is ALL business and has no compassion for the parents or students. I felt like I was dropping my daughter of at a prison camp because that was the way they ran the school. Fussing and shouting at the kids and parents like we worked there! ZERO COMPASSION for the kids that were attending school for the first time. This was my daughter's first interaction with school and it was a complete disaster! I do not agree with ANY school that discourages parental involvement and rips screaming kids away from the only security they have ever known, THEIR PARENTS! I witnessed this for myself and knew that I wouldn't tolerate it and I feel like the other parents shouldn't either. When I have to leave my child for 6-7 hours a day with a complete stranger, I would like the comfort of knowing that she is being taught and receiving the respect that we are all entitled to. If you are a parent looking for compassion, comfort, and reassurance DON'T choose this school. Close Quote
